Can I Use A Thick Or Double Layer Underlayment With Laminate?

I am participating as a guest contestant for the Spring 2020 One Room Challenge (also known as ORC). If you’re not familiar with ORC, it’s a challenge where designers and bloggers attempt to completely transform one space in their home in 6 weeks. This time, the ORC has extended the period from 6 weeks to 8 weeks due to design and maintenance difficulties due to COVID-19. This means that for these 8 weeks I have been and will be sharing my basement renovation process. family room one step with you.

If you’ve been following along, you might remember what we started with (see previous photos and inspiration board in this post):

We tore out the drop ceiling, replaced it with drywall, installed new pot lights, and painted the walls a light, bright warm gray (see this post):

Next, we took out the old (non-working) wood stove unit, painted the fireplace, and added a vaulted wood mantel (see this post):

Installing Luxury Vinyl Over Existing Tiles.

We are not new to flooring installation. We have installed laminate flooring, tile flooring, vinyl siding, and refinished hardwood floors ourselves in the past in several different homes. So we had some basic knowledge of the floor tapping process and how to cut the “wood” pieces to get the joints to line up properly. But this was our first vinyl plank installation and I can already tell we will be using it again.

The color we used is called Smokey Barrel, which is a nice medium dark brown that adds warmth to this space.

To start with, we tore up the old carpet, cleaned and leveled the concrete floor as much as we could to get a nice, flat surface…

Golden Select’s instructions recommended that we use a plastic vapor barrier between the concrete and the floor, although it’s a waterproof floor, for an extra layer of protection I imagine.

We start with a long cut from the far wall and move down to the end of the row, making sure the first row is level (if your wall isn’t that straight). To start, we measured the wall to make sure it was straight. After a few rows, we measured them all again to make sure they were lined up straight in the room.

Once you reach the end of the first row, cut your piece to size and install it. Then take the remaining length and start the next row with it, so that your joints will naturally jam. No joint should be more than 8 inches from another joint.

To cut the pieces correctly lengthwise, turn them over, line them up with the last piece, and mark with a pencil. Then line up the short ends to get it in place, then tap it gently on the long end. If you can’t get it tight enough, you can use scrap flooring to secure it with a rubber mallet. You’ll hear a slight click when you lock it into place, and the panels will be nice and level – indicating they’re properly locked. The seams will also be tight and even.

Continue the entire length of the room! It took us two days to lay this floor.

When you reach the last row, measure both ends of the piece you are cutting. We cut the boards to length using a table saw. When cutting, leave enough space to click the piece on the tongue of the previous row. Baseboards cover the area required to provide this space. If necessary, we used a crossbar to help push the tongue of the last row.

After the floor was installed, we installed new door trim and then installed new pre-painted panels in the garage to minimize painting time and mess. We used 1×6 MDF for the rest of the house.

Oh! It was a huge undertaking, but definitely worth the time and effort. This room is already 100% better with new ceilings, floors, new walls and a fireplace. I can’t wait to share the furniture and art choices I made for it, and I’ll be back with it tomorrow (I’m catching up after a busy few weeks with no time to write about everything that’s going on. ).

In our previous guide, you already know that installing self-adhesive vinyl flooring over concrete floors is very simple, but for the most effective and successful installation, you need to prepare the concrete floor as thoroughly as possible before installing it. result of use – trouble-free use for many years. So here we provide a useful guide on how to prepare a concrete floor for the installation of self-adhesive vinyl planks (film and adhesive PVC panels).

Installing self-adhesive vinyl tiles is the fastest and easiest way to update the look of a room without using glue on dirty floors. Although self-adhesive tiles can be laid over existing concrete floors, it is often necessary to improve the base of the tiles. It is important that the concrete floor is attached to the self-adhesive vinyl board flat, strong, clean, dust-free and free of protruding nails, because there is only self-adhesive board or plank attached, so there is no ambiguity.

Concrete floors have large cracks, so it’s best to remove most of the tile and then replace it with a new concrete tile.
