I had so much fun ordering samples online from Home Depot — I was like a kid on Christmas morning when my samples arrived in the mail. For all the main floors, we chose Lifeproof Padrutt Oak – 8.7 in W Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring – I knew I wanted a real + unfinished wide plank oak look, and these are PERFECT!

They have an amazing texture and feel so good. Love that they’re waterproof too – big deal for us as the basement is just off the pool area. Also, with 2 dogs and little ones running around waterproofs are always a good idea. ? They passed the scratch test for me too – I tried to scratch both floors we chose and neither showed any signs! The Lifeproof Padrutt Oak in the basement looks AMAZING! It’s seriously transformed the entire basement – it feels much bigger and more open. Even the kitchen looks so different with the lighter floors – I love it! It no longer feels like a dark dungeon and actually feels like it’s part of the rest of our home. Can’t wait to finish decorating and making so many memories down here with the girls for years to come.
For the basement, I wanted to do 1 herringbone room. When I received the swatch in the mail, the color was gorgeous and I loved the texture of the wood grain. They are GORGEOUS and I wish I had made them in another room as well. Kitchen Remodel Inspiration
Upstairs we did all the rooms in Padrutt Oak – it’s gorgeous up there and made all the rooms feel so much bigger. It’s crazy how flooring can drastically change a space. It’s so nice that all of our remodeling projects are finally finished upstairs. ?

I’ve tried to answer these questions as often as possible in the stories, but I thought it might be helpful to put all of this information in one place so that anyone can refer to it in the future. I immediately understood that we wanted to change the floor for something more our style and more resistant. I really wanted light oak hardwood flooring, so I set about the daunting task of visiting every flooring store within a 45 mile radius. I received so many samples but nothing fit the bill for what I wanted. Then, on a whim, I decided to check out Home Depot floors. To my surprise, they had exactly what I wanted: light oak, solid hardwood, aged texture, with a matte finish. It’s called the Malibu Wide Plank French Oak Point Reyes Solid Hardwood Floor.

After removing the carpet and laminate flooring, we hired a contractor to install the hardwood floors from Home Depot. We ordered everything online and it took about 2 weeks for delivery. But because this floor is prefinished there was no staining or sanding. So the setup process only took about 3 days total and then we were able to move right in.
We have lived with this floor for six months and I can honestly say I LOVE it. I’m so happy with it and so thankful that we decided to install it right away, before even moving. It was incredible and it truly is my dream floor. So far, there have been no problems with scratches. No dents. Nothing. And that says a lot because I move furniture around all the time. We also have three children. But this stuff is super tough. It was finished with seven coats of high-gloss urethane finish with aluminum oxide, so these floors are made to LAST.
When we were removing the old floors, we had to decide if we wanted to remove the baseboards. This is typically what is done when installing a new floor, but it would cost us a lot of extra time and money. So we installed this floor
Skirting boards in place. The flooring went up against the baseboard, so we used a quarter round to finish it off and cover any gaps. A great trick to save time and money when installing new baseboards!

I use my cordless vacuum cleaner for dust and crumbs. Then we clean the floor with Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner and this hardwood floor mop.
At all. I even dropped some super heavy stuff on the floor and there was no damage. I’m honestly amazed at the durability of this floor!
