Home Kitchen Holešovice – Home Kitchen on Jungmannova Street near Wenceslas Sq. has always been a hidden gem for us. Well, it’s hardly hidden. You can’t get a seat through the lunch hour for two reasons: (1) it’s very popular, and (2) the small bistro doesn’t seat more than twelve. But it’s still a gem and everything we like in a modern bistro: good, honestly made and easy quick lunches or dinners for the whole day, nice atmosphere in the room designed well and pleasant and friendly staff who want you to come back. .
We were happy when we heard that they are planning to open a second branch in the Holesovice district near the Prague Marina development project, the Dox museum and the Prague market. The district of Holesovice, which was flooded in 2002, has improved since the flood but still lags behind the districts of Vinohrady or Karlin in terms of good restaurants, we think. We visited the new Home Kitchen twice: once for breakfast with friends, twice alone for a light dinner.

Compared to the central Home Kitchen, the new one is bigger and has a lot of space that includes a coffee bar, a food bar (which shows all the dishes and soups available and also dominates the smaller Home Kitchen. ) and an open kitchen . The new place also has a nice outdoor seating area that faces the house, not the street.

What we like about the new Home Kitchen are the opening hours: from 7:30am (or 8am on weekends) to 10pm every day. The menu really mirrors the old kitchen front. They serve a good breakfast in the morning: we have scrambled eggs with bacon and egg omelette, livance pancakes with cream cheese and jam and yogurt with granola and fruits. We may have a few comments but everything presented is of good quality and well prepared. We can definitely see ourselves coming here for a lazy weekend brunch. (We skip the bread but we liked them in the old place so we think it’s the same thing.)
For the rest of the day, Home Kitchen usually offers three soups (served in small or large bowls), toast with toppings (we have goat cheese, zucchini and olive versions), one or two salads and one sweet and one savory dish. They offer free wifi, which is important, considering the location of the Home Kitchen among many offices. They serve two types of coffee from Sumber Kopi – one earthy and the other fruity – and they have a La Marzocco machine, but the coffee doesn’t take center stage here. The only criticism I have is the lack of running water. We are not supporters of free water and would be happy to pay a fee for a teapot, but that is not an option. It’s either good bottled water or home-made soda. We think a paid tap water option would fit the bill perfectly.
However, we look forward to many more visits for a relaxing weekend brunch on the way to the Dox museum. The first Home Kitchen has always been close to our hearts, and we think the new one only enhances that relationship.
