“For anyone looking to renovate – or people who just love a bargain – ReStore is a great opportunity and a perfect place to home,” said Louise Hay, executive officer of Housing for Habitat.
“We have all kinds of hardware, furniture and building materials in stock. We have beautiful eclectic pieces, office furniture, and outdoor flooring and lighting (all brand new).
“A lot of our stuff is new and has been sent to us by builders and suppliers who haven’t used it, including laminate floors and ceiling fans that are still in their boxes.”
After being in the pipeline for 15 years, Louise said the team is very excited to open its doors.
Off Every First Saturday!
“It was 15 years of planning! And all profits will go to our social housing programs,” Louise said.
“Our official member launch for Port Adelaide was on Wednesday. The support from the community and our donors has been fantastic and we look forward to sharing what we have to offer.”
So far, the organization has built more than 40 houses and apartments in SA for people struggling with shelter or homelessness.
“In South Australia, we are currently helping the Lovett family build a house in Two Wells. Hopefully we will start that project within the next four months,” said Louise.

Robert and Keira Lovett moved from Port Lincoln to Adelaide in 2018 when their son, Declan, was diagnosed with leukodystrophy, a rare condition that he has no cure for. Their eldest son, Connor, has also been diagnosed with the condition.
In addition to supporting the Lovett family, Habitat for Humanity has initiatives supporting homeless youth in the Murray Bridge area, as well as recovery programs for those affected by the 2019 bushfires.
“We have built four units for homeless youth in the Murray Bridge area and have also received a grant to build two more units in the area.
“We also ran a disaster recovery program called Garden of Hope, which helped people completely devastated by the 2019 bushfires.

“We recently finished it, but we’re still helping some people who need more support. This included the supply of new lawns and pavements.
In addition to assisting low-income families and those affected by bushfires, Habitat for Humanity also spearheads the A Brush with Kindness program, which provides minor home repairs and landscaping for one-off projects.
Recently, the organization has been assisting Catherine House with non-building interior and garden work, such as the insertion of kitchen cabinets vital to its crisis fit-out.
To support this great organization, make your way to the new ReStore on Saturday 7th April. There will be a free sausage sizzle from 11:30am to 1:30pm to celebrate the grand opening. The discount home improvement store has been in town for a little over five years, and about 95 percent of the items it contains have been donated.

“If this wasn’t here, a lot of the things I do to fix the house, like the little knobs you need to fix the kitchen for your cabinets, are outrageous,” Myers said. “You buy them brand new and they’re just like new here anyway.”
The manager said it’s important, because not only do they help the environment by keeping items from going to landfill, but all the money they make goes towards building homes for Habitat for Humanity.
“We’re always looking for the big-box appliances — refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers, and appliances,” said Buck Vivian, the manager of Habitat for Humanity ReStore. “We don’t deal with gas appliances, because we have no way of testing them.”
“The first month is a 10 percent discount and the second month is a 25 and the third month is 50,” Vivian said. “If it lasts a fourth month it’s a 75% discount on our prices.”
