Scientifically, this shows that the education sector is depriving students of the benefits that come with music education. From a study done a long time ago, it is clear that music is good for everyone. With all this in mind, officials in the education sector need to support balanced and consistent music research taught by qualified teachers. First, this article will try and show the benefits that students can get from studying music. First, music brings certain emotional benefits that are needed in other subjects such as mathematics and languages. Music is known to target a part of the brain called spatial and temporal thinking (Spaeth, Sigmund, 96). Students with high spatial-temporal thinking are good at working out solutions to complex problems. These qualities can be extended to other fields such as engineering, architecture and science among others. For the country to have a competitive economy, it requires students to continue with these courses. Music is also a high-paying profession and is known to have benefited many people in low-income communities by being able to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor. A study conducted by James Caterall found that children from poor families who played in orchestras were more likely to get better grades in math than other students who had no musical training. Apart from mathematics, music helps in language development. In order for children to learn to read, they need a brain with a well-functioning memory. By closing this gap, children are able to stop the scourge of social unrest that not only plagues society but also schools. Music does this by providing children with cognitive skills that improve their self-esteem and imagination. The heads of education will not want to cut off the benefit that music brings to children and society. After all, there are no better things that education can bring than seeing students graduate as confident people to be able to face the challenges they will face in the world.
Another reason we should encourage school principals to introduce music in schools is to help children develop intelligence. In order for children to be successful in society and at school, they need to have certain skills. Music increases a child’s intelligence as shown by other sensory tests conducted under controlled behavioral conditions. These studies all agree that music makes a child smarter in the classroom and in society. In a study conducted by Dr. Timo Krings, pianists and pianists were asked to perform complex finger movements while their brains were monitored with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). This process helps in discovering the abilities of the brain cells (Ratey, John, 56). Non-pianists were able to perform the same movements correctly as pianists, but pianists did not show altered brain activity compared to their counterparts. The comparison made showed that pianists were more skilled when moving their fingers and this shows that music can improve brain function. When making finger movements, the pianist needs to adjust the template, words, tone, rhythm and feeling thus teaching the brain to be good at planning and performing all the tasks mentioned at the same time (Timo et al., 13) . Children who have trained and dedicated their time to the orchestra have a playoff of having special attention skills and increasing their levels of intelligence and speech.
In short, education leaders should not deprive children of these benefits in the name of trying to save money. For a nation’s economy to grow, it needs people who are smart, creative and have good understanding. Music will help children to acquire such skills that will help them in the future. The importance of music to the next generation should not be underestimated. A clear message must be sent to all stakeholders in the school system. The message should be that music is an important part of society and will help children and society in real ways. The highlighted benefits can be used to help convince decision makers in making the right decisions for future generations of children. With all this in mind, officials in the education sector need to support balanced and consistent music research taught by qualified teachers.
