Home Flooring Stairs

Home Flooring Stairs – There are so many components that go into building or renovating a home. When we built our new home, we made sure to plan every part of our staircase, all the way from the base to the trim. Everything is very important.

We know this is one of the first things that will be seen upon entering our front door. It was even visible before entering our front door. It had to be strategically planned to make sure the design all came together the way we envisioned.

Transform Your Home With A Wooden Staircase

One of the most important elements in creating a beautiful staircase is the tread. The stair treads will be assembled first, so you’ll want to make sure you’ve got these pieces of the puzzle before proceeding. This can be tricky if you’ve used prefinished hardwood for your flooring, but we’ve written an article on how to match solid hardwood flooring to prefinished hardwood.

It’s important to make sure the bases either match fairly closely or you go darker or lighter to create contrast. If the site is just a little off, it will look as if you are trying to match it, but not really doing it. This can be a pretty big sore thumb for this area and your stairs. So, I recommend either trying to approach it very closely or completely different.

Since our ready-made hardwood is white oak, we made sure to choose white oak for the base. This makes color matching easier.

Perhaps the most important aspect of the staircase, in my opinion, is the railing! This can also be where the bulk of your stair budget is spent, but if you do it right, it’s well worth it.

Flooring & Stairs

When we were planning our staircase as a whole, we thought a lot about how the railing would look.

In our previous house which was a modern farmhouse, we went with a more modern look and installed a black metal fence. We love this look, but in this house, we opted for something a little different. We knew we wanted to incorporate black metal somewhere, so we chose a simple square black metal baluster. But, for the new handrails and pillars, we decided to make wood, white oak to be more specific. We agree that this will bring a cleaner look while maintaining a cozy cottage feel.

Wall sconces are an element that is often overlooked or skipped by most people in staircase design. In my opinion, they really set the mood for the area. Wall sconces will add interest to the space while also providing additional lighting. It’s great to turn on to create mood lighting in the evening or early morning.

Wall scones are very versatile and come in a number of different design options as well as single, double or triple lights. You can also choose to place multiple fixtures in your stair area. We went with one on the landing area and another on the longest staircase.

Of course, the icing on the cake or the last piece of the puzzle will be the decoration. This is one area we haven’t finished yet, but we’ve figured out what we want to do. Many use wall sconces to serve as a light above a beautiful piece of art or even a family gallery wall. It’s also great to add rugs where you can for some texture and maybe even color. And as always, baskets add some warmth and texture if you have the space. Keuka Studios offers a wide variety of stairs and can also design custom cable railings, glass railings or metal railings for new or existing stairs. When talking to clients about stair and railing projects, we try to give our clients sentences in stair design terminology. To learn more about the types of stairs we offer and the terminology we use throughout the design process, check out this list of popular stair styles:

A straight staircase is a staircase without any change of direction. It is certainly one of the most common types of stairs found in both residential and commercial properties. Below is an example of a straight floating ladder made with various rope styles, fence types and wood species.

On longer flights of stairs, landings are included to break up the flight. Building codes require this for floor heights over 12 feet. Especially in commercial buildings, straight stairs often have platforms halfway up the stairs.

An L-shaped staircase is a variation of a straight staircase with bends in some parts of the staircase. This turn is usually achieved by adding a landing at the transition point. The bend is often 90 degrees, however, it doesn’t have to be. If the landing is closer to the top or bottom of the staircase it is sometimes referred to as a long L staircase or quarter turn staircase.

U-shaped stairs are basically two parallel straight stairs connected by a landing that creates a 180-degree turn in the pedestrian line.

A winding staircase is a variation of an L-shaped staircase but instead of a flat landing, it has a pie-shaped or triangular tread at the corner transition.

A spiral staircase follows a helical arc. They usually have a very compact design and the base radiates around the central pillar.

Like a spiral staircase, a curved staircase follows the arc of a helix. However, they tend to have a larger radius and usually do not make a full circle. A curved staircase adds elegance to any home or business. For this reason, they are almost always in the entry where they make the best first impression.

Tips For Choosing Your Hardwood Stairs

A cantilever staircase is made so that the base of the staircase appears to be floating in the air without support. The ladder strap will be attached to one end of the base and can be hidden or exposed. Cantilevered stairs add interest and spaciousness to any room.

Split stairs also known as branched stairs usually have a wide set of stairs starting at the bottom ending at a landing in the middle of the flight. The stairs split on the landing into two narrower sets of stairs leading in opposite directions. .

A staircase, like a ladder, can serve as a means of access. However, building codes do not allow stairs to serve as the primary means of access. Keuka Studios can design custom staircases for applications such as libraries, lofts and docks.

Choosing Wood for Stair Treads – understanding wood and how it is sawn and laminated to make stair treads. Stairs are a high traffic area in any home with daily up and down movement. This makes the staircase a focal point and a significant space that requires a strong style and flooring material. Since stairs are not exposed to water, there are a variety of flooring materials that are suitable for them.

If you are installing a carpet, then it will require regular vacuuming. Most importantly, it is better if you consider the level of safety and noise. You should consider the needs of your family members, especially if you have elderly people, babies and pets.

However, you should also consider the type of stairs you have. A typical staircase is continuous and should work well with different flooring materials. If you have a unique staircase, then it should be left as designed. If you need to modify it, you should contact an architect to redesign it. For example, stairs are designed like stairs.

Innovations in the flooring industry have given way to many high-quality stair flooring materials, giving homeowners many near-perfect options. It is possible to install any flooring material, with each having its own advantages and disadvantages.

The floor is great for stairs. The rug has good traction making it safe, without the risk of slipping or falling. Carpet is comfortable on the feet, and it’s also the most soundproof option around. Moreover, it is also budget friendly. However, it
is difficult to keep carpets free from dust, dirt and allergens. Carpets may also not withstand constant use and may require regular replacement.

If your entire home is wood, and you want a non-wood flooring option, you can consider luxury vinyl tile. This material gives you options for the look of wood. However, you can still install LVT flooring in your own way. LVT is easy to clean, durable and comes in stair-sized boards that make it easy to install on stairs.

Laminate flooring has become a popular stair flooring option. The floor is durable, of course, not as durable as hardwood floors. However, it is much more affordable than hardwood. If you also consider the installation process, it
