I agree to the terms and conditions, including not writing fake reviews, which is against the law in many cases. It all started when 16-year-old Jim Rogers sold fishing tackle on the side to make a little pocket change.
Recap, Highlights From Kansas City Chiefs Game Vs. Jaguars
Jim Rogers was a legend in the sport of fishing. In the year In 1959, Rogers not only started lures, but he was also a professional angler – in 1967, he was one of the first 106 members to fish the first All-American Bass Tournament.
Jim found fame with his bass tackles Big Jim, Hog Stick, Hog Hunter and Walkin Jim, and appeared on TV’s Fishing with Jim Rogers, as well as hosting a radio show called The Fishing Report.
Jim’s son, Steve Rogers, grew up helping his father make and sell lures, so he saw firsthand how to be a successful businessman and passionate businessman. In fact, it’s no surprise that in 1980, at the age of 27, he opened a retail store called Rogers Sporting Goods.
Steve Rogers ran a successful sporting goods store out of Branson, Missouri, but felt he could do better by catching customers before they came to the lake, rather than selling to last-minute shoppers. He picked up and moved the store to Liberty, Missouri, where the famous Rogers Sporting Goods is still located today.
Royals Hope Kansas City Brings Out The Blue During Opening Day Weekend, 2022 Season
Liberty started with a 90-day lease in a 20×60 building – he didn’t plan to stay long. He thought it would just be a stopgap for the next, permanent, place. He did well, however, he decided to stay. The small storefront was packed with people buying lures and others waiting in line to buy performance fishing gear.
In the year In 1985, Steve Rogers Sporting Goods expanded into an 18,000-square-foot building, which still sells only fishing equipment. Until 1990, they began to carry hunting clothes and equipment – now the most famous supplies.
In fact, as he expanded his offerings, he hoped hunting equipment would account for at least 20 percent of sales by 1990, with the remaining 80 percent coming from fishing sales. Now, by 2021, hunting gear will account for more than 95% of Rogers Sporting Goods sales.
The company is currently the largest retailer of steel shot ammo in the country. They are a major retailer in the waterfowl industry. But to get to that point, they had to do some creative marketing.

In the year In 1997, Rogers Sporting Goods had its first consignment sale. They simply ran a small ad in the Kansas City Star advertising ten free decoys with shotgun shells. It turned out to be the best business day in the company’s history – again, it took them 10 years to sell that much. That sale opened the door for them and made them known for Ammo. Again, the company expanded and began reaching new customer markets.
The next step in the company’s expansion was the introduction of online sales. In the year In the early 2000s, a local boat seat company went out of business and Rogers Sporting Goods bought their inventory for a bargain, but were a little unsure of what to do with them. The boat seats were made for fine, large boats, not the bass boats that most of their customers use.
They tried their hand at selling on eBay. The seats sold surprisingly quickly, and they thought they’d try selling more store items on eBay. Online sales soon took off, and they set up their own website to sell at -rogerssportinggoods.com.
Rogers Sporting Goods hit Internet sales at just the right time, with the boom in online shopping. Suddenly, a brick-and-mortar store was reaching customers across the country. The demand increased greatly, and they began to plan and prepare for the addition of properties.

To complement the online product, the company had 38 semi-trailers fully parked outside their store. It wasn’t efficient, but the company was paying accordingly. They knew they needed to expand quickly.
So, they moved to their current retail store in 2007. At 60,000 square feet, it still wasn’t enough to handle all of their online orders. They rented an underground warehouse in the Missouri Caverns to store products – a warehouse where suppliers were a little confused.
But as Rogers Sporting Goods grew, they upgraded their warehouse to a 200,000-square-foot facility, complete with conveyors, heavy equipment, and good employees to get the job done. Now only 25 employees are needed to ship up to 5,000 orders.
And through it all – 41 years of business growth and management – Steve Rogers continues to steer the ship. The success of the company largely depends on his hard work – and as his son Stevie said, no one asks him to do something that he would not do himself.

Steve Rogers, Steve’s son and part owner, chief buyer and head of marketing for Rogers Sporting Goods, said of his father, “We finally got him to stop riding the fork last year. He had two knee replacements and a bad back, but he still led by example. “
And the Rogers family lead by example. Stevie and his two sisters all work and contribute to the company’s success. Mandy works in accounts payable and Shannon manages the retail store. According to Stevie, his sister Shannon is the biggest savior of the three children. She is a great duck hunter. And the grandchildren are really fishing, he says.
The company is an authority on the outdoor space because the family is right. They know what to order for the store because they don’t buy things they don’t use themselves. Most Rogers Sporting Goods employees live and breathe hunting, and that personal knowledge translates smoothly into their customer service, an advantage big box stores can’t always offer.
And because the outdoor industry has so much to lose and so much to take care of, it’s important to the Rogers family that outdoor conservation is a key part of giving back. Stevie Rogers The best thing we can do for hunting in the future is “education.” Not only do they teach young hunters how to hunt, but how to protect the land – this way the sport and the industry will continue to grow.

These ideas that have made Rogers the giant it is today are the reasons why Mossy Oak is proud to be a partner. Love of the sport, love of the land and concern for the consumer – these are the qualities that make an outdoor company stand out.
