That was a hit on the group, my friend! I thought we had a problem because the vinyl plank flooring needs to be laid directly over the concrete floor.

The main thing to consider when installing floor coverings over an existing floor covering is to make sure that the floor is properly prepared and that you have all the necessary materials.
Most existing standard vinyl sheets are installed on a flat floor. So you don’t have to take extra steps to level the floor.
But if you find that your current flooring has significant low-lying spots, you can use a self-leveling compound to fix those spots.
Our existing linoleum floor wasn’t in great shape, but we felt it was in good shape for this small space.
How To Install Vinyl Plank Over Tile Floors
It is a good idea to prepare the floor to make sure that there is no layer of wax or grease stains on the linoleum that can cause the adhesive to not stick.
So the first thing to do is give the floor a good scrub with TSP or trisodium phosphate.
This is a strong chemical, so be sure to wear gloves and eye protection, but it should work!
Also check the manufacturer’s recommendations to see if they recommend additional steps to prepare the existing floor.
How To Install Vinyl Plank Flooring Over Carpet Padding
If your old flooring is in good condition, you will be able to lay new vinyl tiles directly over it.
Depending on the age of the linoleum, it may contain asbestos, and you definitely don’t want to rip it up unless you have to!
We installed 3 different types of flooring and each time the manufacturer gives detailed instructions on where to place the first board in the room, but it depends on the type of flooring and each manufacturer.
If this is the start of any peel and stick vinyl flooring in your home, you should go to the center of the room and create lines to follow. Then you install the first row from the center point, moving towards the walls.
How To Lay Vinyl Plank Over Existing Flooring
The reason you want to do this is so you have a straight line when laying the first tile.
Since we will be extending this floor from our basement family room, we could continue our vinyl floor from the last row we installed.
After we pulled up the rest of our floating floor, we discovered that the linoleum did not cover the entire concrete slab in this room.
We scraped and sanded off the old extra glue that the old installers had applied to the concrete many moons ago.

TIP: If the base of your new vinyl flooring is a strong adhesive like ours, wearing rubber gloves will help control how much adhesive gets on your hands.
We decided not to use a floor roller and found that using masking tape worked great for a few difficult tiles.
Our floors have a fairly sticky base. We found that we had to take some denatured alcohol to remove the places where the glue had transferred from our fingers to the top of the vinyl tile.
But if you’re planning to tile in a kitchen, bathroom, or laundry room that uses a lot of water, make sure the flooring is designed for that type of space.

We’ve had a few issues with tiles shifting or telegraphing showing a gap. And we are looking for ways to prevent that from happening. We may need to use extra glue on a few boards if it gets worse, although the manufacturer doesn’t recommend it.
TIP: Make sure you add 15% extra when you get the square footage of the room you plan to install. It’s better to have too much than to come to the end of a DIY project and not have enough supplies!

After 5 years of living with engineered hardwood, we FINALLY made the big decision to cover it with luxury vinyl plank. Of course, there were lots and lots of questions about how we managed to install directly on parquet floors, why we replaced them and the specifics of the installation process. So, here are your questions answered!
The first question I got when I embarked on this crazy project was WHY!? There are many reasons, but the most important reason is how fragile and high maintenance hardwood is. It required constant cleaning, attention to every fallen ice cube, quick wiping of wet feet from the jacuzzi. Not to mention scratches EVERYWHERE from dog paws and kids throwing toys. I cleaned them and after a few hours they looked dirty. Hardwood floors were impractical for our family of 3 kids and 3 dogs.
Tile is a permanent floor covering laid in the thinnest layer and grouted in place. The tile is waterproof, but has its own “look”. Removal is extremely time consuming.
Hardwood – Real hardwood is also considered a natural, durable floor. It is usually nailed or glued into place. It’s also not waterproof, and depending on the look and finish, it will show scratches, dents, and dents. It can be sanded and machined, but once installed and finished, it’s your most expensive option.
Vinyl Vs. Laminate Flooring: What’s The Difference
Engineered hardwood – has a thin top layer of real wood followed by several layers of plywood. It can be processed 1-4 times depending on the brand. Since only the top layer is real wood, they can keep costs down significantly, making it an affordable alternative to real hardwood. It can be installed in various ways: floating, glued or nailed.
Laminate is a synthetic floor covering. Made to look like wood, the inexpensive new lines are waterproof but not waterproof. It is scratch resistant and has a thickness similar to hardwood or hardwood about 1/2 inch thick.
Luxury Vinyl Plank – 100% synthetic flooring that looks like wood, tile or other flooring. The main difference between luxury vinyl and laminate flooring is that luxury vinyl is usually 1/2 the thickness and 100% waterproof, making it a great option for wet areas like bathrooms and kitchens.
Disclaimer: Each brand of flooring will have specific instructions on whether or not the flooring can be decked. Not all are created equal. We used Audacity Flooring’s luxury vinyl in sandpoint, which is one of the lines that can be laid over an existing permanent floor. Our engineered hardwood is nailed into place, making it a permanent floor rather than a floating floor.
How To Remove

1- Transitions to other rooms with different flooring. Wouldn’t putting LVP on top make your transitions too tall?
2- Door gap. Especially the door leading out. It is possible to cut the door with a saw, but know that going into the project you are adding a lot of extra work.
3- Is your existing floor permanent? Is it glued or nailed? check by lifting the vent, plinth and trying to remove the part will show you how it is installed. Do you have tiles? You may be able to install over tile if it doesn’t affect the above.
First, it is completely unnecessary. Removing the floating floor is very quick once you have the first part up. Second, it will cause bending and separation down the line.
Repairing A Damaged Laminate Floor
Despite popular belief, high cost doesn’t always mean high quality, and not all luxury vinyl is created equal.
I would look for luxury hard core vinyl first. It is stronger, allows for installation over 6,000 continuous square feet, and is generally more durable than Audacity Flooring.
Second, I would look at large samples to look at the different grain pattern and find the most natural boards to match.
