Can You Put Peel And Stick Flooring Over Linoleum
It seems like only yesterday that we put peel and stick tile on the floor of the girls’ bathroom. Anyone else? Well, it’s been 5 months, and they’ve been tested so we thought it was time to spill the details – the answer to everyone’s burning question, “how does vinyl hold up?”
An Honest Review Of My Peel And Stick Tiles
Well the truth is… it’s not as good as we hoped it would be. Listen to me. This was always going to be a temporary solution to renovating the bathroom until we could prioritize doing what we dreamed of. Just a little flow to more closely match our taste and beauty. But also, we hoped it would last us a year or two.
We learned a lot from this and wanted to share what we would have done differently, or what you could do if you are interested in this flooring solution.
Sometimes I forget that this is what we started with. As you can see, this tile is very rough and has bumps around the edges. We placed each vinyl sticker over the tile but left the grout exposed.
…and this is what it looks like with 5 months of wear. The corners are definitely rising, which we expected since we didn’t try to seal any of this, but honestly we think this has more to do with the fact that our grout is recessed, and the edges on the tile. so rough and textured. Combine that with less foot traffic that lifts curbs over time.
Does Peel And Stick Tile Really Work?
Some grout and tiles may be more suitable for this DIY. But we’re all about solutions here. If your grout is sunk in, you can easily sand the surface to make it smoother with the edges of the tile. After doing a bit of research, we think that even if your tile is rough and textured, it would still be better if you applied some sort of seal coat on top.
So good news. I don’t consider this a total failure. Knowing that this would be a temporary update gave me the freedom to be more daring in choosing fun patterns and colors. It has brightened up this bathroom and made it so much easier to be in, especially when we were using it as our master bath during the master bedroom bathroom renovation.
But, if we were to do it again, we would (and probably will) add sealant to the entire floor, or at least the grout lines. I think if your floor is smooth tile, you won’t have any issues. But knowing what we know now, yes we would still do this fun DIY update and we will continue to repair it in installments forever.

Simple Ways To Install Peel And Stick Vinyl Plank Flooring
Updating the old tile floor, which was literally crumbling and no longer attached to the sub-floor over most of the room, made a huge improvement in the feel of our home.
And with many modern styles of peel and stick vinyl tiles, it can really update a space on a budget.

We were able to replace the flooring in our 15′ x 22′ kitchen and dining room for only $575 (plus new subfloor). That’s 1/3 the cost of the vinyl flooring we had installed in the kitchen and dining room in our last home.
I Want To Lay A Stick And Peel Vinyl Tile Over This Epoxy Floor. Do I Need To Prep It? Use Additional Adhesive? It Has A Slight Textured Finish From The Chips
And for our bathroom renovation, we had enough tiles, flooring and adhesive that we were able to replace the bathroom floor for free!
Yes! Peel and stick vinyl tiles are the easiest flooring I have ever installed. The tiles are easy to cut with just a utility knife and there are no jointed sides that can be challenging to fit perfectly.
But my favorite part of vinyl tiles is that you can replace only 1 damaged tile, in the middle of the room.
And if you already have an intact, flat floor, no preparation is required. You can put the peel and stick tile directly on it after cleaning.
How To Install Peel And Stick Vinyl Tiles
To determine how much tile you need to order, you’ll want to measu
re the length and width of your room in feet. Then you multiply the two numbers together. This tells you the total square feet of your room.
Once you have the total square feet of your room, you want to multiply that by 10% and add that to the total square feet. An additional 10% is required for deductions and errors. Plus it can leave you with a few left over to replace damaged tiles later, or you can restore unused tiles.
Room Length x Room Width = Total SqFt Total SqFt + (Total SqFt x .10) = How Much to Buy
For our bathroom, the floor is 6′ 2 1/2″ long x 5′ wide. I rounded the height to 6.25′ (which is 6′ 3″). Multiplied together I have 31.25 square feet. Then I multiply 31.25 by .10 (or 10%) and get 3.125. Add that to the total and I need 34.375 square feet, or round to 35.
Peel And Stick Flooring: How To Install Without Demolition!
Since the tiles come in 2 square pieces, I needed a total of 18 tiles for our bathroom floor.
