Home Depot and Lowe’s are set to give out thousands of orange aprons and red vests to new seasonal, part-time, and full-time workers this spring. Both home improvement giants are in the process of hiring thousands of workers as the industry enters a busy period.
Home Depot said in a statement Tuesday that it plans to hire 80,000 new workers this spring. Lowe said in early January that he was looking to hire 53,000 workers to help with this rush. Both home improvement salespeople will be filling a mix of full-time, part-time, and seasonal jobs. And both companies encouraged interested applicants to check out their respective career websites.
Spring is traditionally a busy season for home improvement, when professionals can take on major projects that require outside work.

Both Home Depot and Lowe’s have long been expanding their workforce with seasonal workers to handle the rush. Home Depot also sought to fill its stores with 80,000 new employees last spring. In February 2019, Lowe’s held a recruiting day with the goal of signing up 50,000 more.
At Home Depot, the garden department in particular will be hiring for many part-time roles. There are also openings for overnight shipping, sales, distribution centers, and various customer service roles in all departments.
“When you join Home Depot, you’re joining a winning team built on our core values and culture focused on inclusion,” Home Depot EVP of Human Resources Tim Hourigan said in a statement on the company’s website.
Home Depot said it will provide new hires with “new training programs and tools, including a gamified mobile app, e-learning, and on-the-job training,” in its press release about the lease.

“More than 90% of our store leaders started their careers here as hourly associates, which is a testament to our commitment to growing the jobs of our people,” Hourigan said.
Lowe’s said it will host hiring events at all of its 1,700 or so stores in March. Upcoming events across the country are expected to take place on February 19 and March 4.
“Spring is a very busy season for home improvement projects and a great time to start a new career at Lowe’s,” Lowe’s EVP of human resources Jennifer Weber said in a statement posted on the company’s website.
Seasonal gigs available include working as a cashier, lawn or garden associate, stockist, or loader. According to Lowe, these seasonal jobs usually extend into the summer, although half of the seasonal participants became “lifelong friends” in 2019.

Other full-time and part-time roles include “department managers, cashiers, stockists, sales professionals, professional customer service associates, and sales service associates,” according to a company report.
