Home Improvement is a family sitcom about Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor, host of a local cable home improvement show called “Tool Time.” Home Improvement looks at Tim at work, and at home, as Jill’s husband and the father of three teenage boys. Having been married for almost 20 years, Tim and Jill have had their share of fights, but with the help of their wise, mysterious neighbor Wilson W. Wilson, Jr., things often turn out okay.
As Tim and the Boys drive to school, they reminisce about some of the memories they have over the past eight years.
Brad blames Tim for potentially ruining his football career when he injures his knee on a piece of hardware during the Tool Time shoot at the house. Magicians Penn & Teller appear on Tool Time.
Randy returns from Costa Rica for Christmas only to discover the changes that have taken place in his absence and that life has gone on without him.

Benny, Tim’s friend, moves into his aunt’s house while she is away, but a gas leak causes the house to blow up and Benny has to stay with the Taylors.
After Jill specifically tells Tim not to touch the dishwasher, he breaks it in an attempt to make it more powerful; more of a “man” dishwasher. Jill has a job interview, but she doesn’t get it and when Tim tries to comfort her, it only makes things worse. After talking to Wilson, Tim tries again and succeeds.
It’s Halloween and as usual Tim is up to his old tricks, but Jill is planning a prank of her own. Tim receives flowers from a fan called Rose, but soon strange things begin to happen. She keeps calling him, Wilson thinks she’s obsessed with him. Tim tries to hide, but it’s no use.
George Clarke’s Old House, New Home
Harry announces his retirement and sells the hardware store. Tim organizes a fundraising party for the store, but ends up buying it himself. But when the customers dry up, Tim starts to wonder what he’s doing wrong.
Al tells Tim and Jill that one of their boys may have stolen a pocketknife. They don’t believe their boys would steal, but they find the knife in Mark’s pocket in the laundry.
Tim decides to put another sink in the bathroom so his shaving junk won’t get in Jill’s way, but the project takes longer than he expects.
Al creates a Tool Time board game, hoping to earn enough money to propose to Ilene, but the game has problems and sometimes catches fire.

It’s a battle of Halloween pranks. First Tim scares Al, then Brad and Randy scare Jill, then a strange man appears at the door asking to see the basement. Jill, Tim and Wilson tell the boys that a man called Clifford Warren was accused of killing his brother years ago, but because of his mental problems he was put in a mental hospital. Little do the boys know it’s a Halloween prank. They invite Al to help them pull a prank on themselves, but Al and Wilson pull a prank on the Taylors.
Heidi goes into labor at the Classic Car Man of the Year awards and Tim and Jill help deliver the baby, while receiving instructions from Wilson on the phone.
Benny doesn’t get to be on the guest list for the Thanksgiving dinner party at Taylor’s house and Tim gets into the giving spirit.
Tim’s brothers help move their mother out of the family home, but Tim takes an immediate dislike to the new owners’ plans for the place.
