Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity has been an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International since 1986; during that time it has helped 193 families in the El Paso area with their homes. Internationally, Habitat has more than 1,000 ReStores in seven countries; According to Habitat, they raised more than $76 million in 2020 to help support the nonprofit’s mission.

Occupying a 22,500-square-foot newly constructed building, the ReStore on Colorado Springs’ Northeast Side will be Habitat’s second retail location.
Its first ReStore opened in 2004 at 411 S. Wahsatch Ave. on the southern edge of downtown, with 34,000 square feet of interior space and a 4,000-square-foot courtyard for outdoor retail, said Jeff White, Pike’s chief retail officer. Peak habitat for humanity.
Last year, Habitat estimated that about 1,500 tons of materials donated and sold were kept out of landfills, he said. The ReStore also recycles porcelain (used to make the city’s road base) and metal, which generates additional revenue for housing projects.
In 2018, the ReStore became a state-certified paint recycling collection center as part of PaintCare, a non-profit organization that provides paint recycling services. The new ReStore will also serve as a paint drop-off location through PaintCare.

Habitat officials conducted market research a few years ago to determine a second ReStore location that would appeal to customers for shopping needs and where donors would want to drop off items.
Tutt is located just east of Powers, whose shopping centers, grocery stores, supermarkets, restaurants and other uses make it one of the most popular retail destinations in the city, drawing thousands of motorists each day.
Habitat also looked for a site near established neighborhoods, White said. The new ReStore is a short drive from the thousands of homes built over the past 30 years in residential areas on the east and west sides of Powers.
“These are places that are remodeling their homes or updating their homes,” White said. “They’re our main target because they’re going to be looking for things to decorate their house with, or they’re going to donate products to us.”

At the same time, the ReStore isn’t too far from newer neighborhoods to the north and east, said Jay Carlson, a member of Habitat’s board of directors. He is also managing broker and principal of Springs brokerage Front Range Commercial, which helped the nonprofit purchase the new ReStore site.
In new neighborhoods, homebuyers might spruce up their newly built homes with new purchases, so they’ll have to donate old stuff, Carlson said.
“You also want to stay away from the new stuff, because these people usually get rid of old furniture and items from their homes when they move into their new place,” Carlson said. “This place really fits all those bills.”
Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity paid $1 million in August 2020 to purchase the 2-acre site in Tutt, El Paso County land records.

That price was a discount, Carlson said; the property was owned by Powers Dublin Development Co., led by Colorado Springs businessman and philanthropist Phil Lane.
“They definitely took less than they asked for,” Carlson said. “They tried to work with us to make it work. And they identified it as a use they would like to see.”

The US-China trade war and the supply and demand shocks caused by the Covid-19 crisis are forcing manufacturers everywhere to reassess their supply chains. For the foreseeable future, they will face pressure to increase local production, increase employment in their home countries, reduce reliance on risky sources, and rethink stock-saving and just-in-time replenishment strategies that can be crippling when material shortages occur. . This article provides tips on how to make your supply chain more flexible without losing your competitive edge. Start by mapping the entire supply chain to identify both direct and indirect sources. Determine how quickly those most important to you could recover from the disruption or replace it with an alternative. Explore manufacturing process improvements or new technologies such as automation, continuous flow manufacturing and 3D printing that can reduce costs or increase flexibility in the

Carefully map your supply chain to identify risks. To mitigate them, create alternate sources of supply in different locations or increase your stock of critical materials. Review your product strategies. And explore new manufacturing technologies that could increase flexibility and resilience.
When the Covid-19 pandemic subsides, the world will look much different. The supply shock that began in China in February and the demand shock that followed as the global economy shut down exposed vulnerabilities in manufacturing strategies and corporate supply chains almost everywhere. Temporary trade restrictions and shortages of pharmaceuticals, critical medical supplies and other products highlighted their weaknesses. These developments, along with the US-China trade war, have led to a rise in economic nationalism. All of this will put manufacturers worldwide under greater political and competitive pressure to increase local production, increase employment in their home countries, reduce or even eliminate reliance on sources deemed risky, and rethink their use. lean manufacturing strategies that include reducing the amount of inventory held in their global supply chains.
About to change. Consumers will continue to want low prices (especially during a recession) and companies will not be able to charge more simply because they produce in higher cost local markets. Competition will ensure that. In addition, the pressure to operate efficiently and to use capital and production capacity sparingly will remain relentless.
The challenge for companies will be to make supply chains more flexible without reducing their competitiveness. To meet this challenge, leaders must first understand their vulnerabilities and then consider a number of actions, some of which should have been taken long before the pandemic.
