Can You Put Peel Stick Tile Over Linoleum – Looking for a quick and inexpensive way to cover up an old floor? One blogger used skin and wood tiles, and the result is impressive!

Kate Riley of Petaluma, California, who runs the DIY home blog Centsational Style, doesn’t like the old, gray linoleum floor in her laundry room, but replacing it will require her washer and dryer.

“The cheap and easy solution was to simply cover it with a fresh pattern of peel and stick vinyl,” she told the house.

Easy Ways To Lay Peel And Stick Tile: 15 Steps (with Pictures)

Taking just a few hours out of her day and spending a total of $120 on tile, Riley transformed the small space with a fresh new look and a black and white floor design.

After you’ve given the main floor a good scrub, lay the tiles and decide how you want the pattern to look. Then, get to grips!

She pointed out that the adhesive on her tiles was forgiving so she was able to lift each tile and reapply it a few times to get the pattern right.

It feels “like you’re walking on a big, big, thick vinyl sticker,” Riley explained on his blog. Kate Riley / Sensational Style

And while you can see the seams between the tiles if you look closely, she said it doesn’t bother her because it’s such an improvement over the other floors.

So, how have the stickers held up since she replaced them a year ago? “sounds good!” she said “I only had to replace three tiles in the corners where they were chipped and lost their adhesion.”

One tip he recommends is to buy a few extra tiles to have on hand for replacement if you need them.

How To Install A Peel And Stick Tile Backsplash (easy Diy!)

Ever since we moved into our house with beige floors, beige walls, and beige cabinets, I’ve been on a mission to change things up! We have similar porcelain tiles in both of our bathrooms, our laundry room, and even tile in our fireplace. No one was creative when building this house, that’s for sure!

So, while I’ve wanted to change them for a long time, fear has held me back. I didn’t want to:

But the stick on the decals looks very easy. Keep reading to see if I’ll be using it again on my tiles. 😉

Steps for Applying Peel and Stick Vinyl Tile Floor Stickers 1. Paint the grout lines with floor paint or grout paint.

Does Peel & Stick Tile Work On Plywood?

I painted my grout lines exactly as they were, but as you will read below, I should have ordered smaller tiles. And so I need to paint more on top of the tiles. Don’t make the same mistake as me!

I cleaned all the floors first, and then I vacuumed each tile with my stick vacuum and pre-cleaned each tile with my cleaner. Allow the cleaner to dry before applying the stickers.

I found that if you mess up, you can quickly remove it and apply it again. Once the strip is stuck, clean and smooth the rest of the back. Work out any bubbles that may be hidden underneath.

Sometimes, I used my hand or the side of my paper cutter to go through the tiles. They stood up very well.

5. Trim any unusual angles or corners or edges around the back of the used tile sticker.

I would use the old sticker paper backing and mark where I needed to cut. And then just cut the decal with my scissors. If the trim doesn’t touch the floor, I left 1/8 of an inch inside the cut line so the sticker would fit under the trim piece.

The tiles on the right are cut smaller than the tiles on the right, so you can see how they look like overhangs on the right.

My advice would be to order a slightly smaller size of tile stickers if your tiles are beaded, and paint more of the grout lines.

What You Need To Know About Peel And Stick Tile

And honestly it might not even matter. I haven’t touched them at all, but my fear is that someone or something will grab a corner of the tile and it will just come loose.

Only time will tell – and I’ll probably follow up in a year to see how they’ve held up.

But in the meantime, I’m just waiting for one of my kids to shout that they picked up one of the tiles. Maybe I’m just delusional? We will see. Like I said, so far, so good.

Update: I removed the bathroom floor tile stickers when the bathroom was filled before putting the house on the market in 2019. It has been a year and a half since I entered. So for the price, I was happy how much we got out of them!

How To Lay Peel And Stick Vinyl Tile Flooring

You want to wait 24 hours after laying vinyl tile before using it and 72 hours before you wet it. So, there is some curing time for the adhesive. Hopefully it will all last. #fingers crossed

I think peel and stick vinyl tiles are awesome! I would 100% use them again in my home. But I think they would be better for covering a flat surface, either linoleum, flat tiles, wood or a floor that is leveled. Or you can use it in a vertical space that doesn’t deal with traffic!

I hope this helps you decide on peel and stick vinyl tiles. I told myself that if it didn’t work, it was a small price to pay to try something new! It won’t break me if they don’t work. 😊

Frequently Asked Questions About Vinyl Tile Stickers 1. How do vinyl floor tile stickers hold up over time?

How To Use Peel And Stick Tile On A Fireplace Surround

I think they can last for years in a non-high traffic area of your home. I wouldn’t use them in an entryway or laundry room floor that gets a lot of traffic! With more traffic, you’ll find that the corners will go up. I would use a stencil instead!

Yes and no! If you pour water on top of the tiles, they are very waterproof. But water can get under the edges if the floors get wet. And depending on what kind of water gets on them will determine whether you want to leave them in place or not.

So, when we filled our toilet in the girl’s bathroom. I also knew we would be putting it on the market soon, so I removed all the vinyl tiles.

It’s always hard to make decisions for someone else and someone else’s budget. But overall I think they’re a fun, inexpensive way to update a small space. If it’s a room that doesn’t get a lot of traffic and doesn’t have standing water on the floors, I’d love to do it again!
