FIY, by the way, I’m not talking about myself here. Yes, I am a crazy girl who wants to change the floor.
It’s hard to photograph, but the floor in my little porch entry is dark, has a million streaks, and just generally looks dull and dreary.
I really wanted to freshen up the whole area, but what I had in mind didn’t match the floor. It was impossible to replace the laminate …
And it’s not the first time either. I did this for my kitchen linoleum floor a few years ago and loved it! I have since moved out of that house (which I can now say was a breeze to carry) and I wanted to give it another try!

Around the same time I was sourcing wallpaper, I was approached by a Los Angeles-based wallpaper company called DesignYourWall.com. I loved that they had an in-house designer for a personalized approach and we worked together to create a wonderful print for my floor.
2. Measure and cut the required length of wallpaper. I didn’t complete this step at first because DesignYourWall sent me a matching one (albeit slightly larger)
3. Peel off the wallpaper bit by bit and trace it along the edge of your floor. Use your other hand to align the paper with the card. If air bubbles appear, simply lift the contact paper back up and smooth again.
4. Once the paper is in place, use an xacto knife and/or scissors to remove excess wallpaper and trim the corners and edges.
Flooring Types That Stand The Test Of Time
7. Finally, you need to seal the floor. Open the can of clear polyurethane and mix well. For best results, use a floor pad (I used a paint brush) and apply it to the floor in long, even strokes. Allow to dry in the center of the floor for approximately four hours.
At least 3 layers are needed for a good seal. Leave the floor for at least 48 hours before moving the furniture. If in doubt, follow the instructions on the back of the can!
