Johnson City Mall is an indoor shopping mall in Johnson City, Tennessee, United States. The mall has over 90 stores and a food court. It is managed by Washington Prime Group.

Opened in 1971, the mall features Dick’s Sporting Goods, HomeGoods, Belk and JCPney as anchor stores, with more than 90 built-in pants.
Dick’s Sporting Goods House Of Sport Coming To Johnson City
Construction on the mall began in the early 1970s and it opened on March 17, 1971. The mall had two main anchors, a grocery store, drugstore, McCrory Five and Dime and a movie theater. Several stores local to the Tri-Cities area were also included. The shopping center originally had the name “Miracle Mall Shopping Cter”.
In the early 1980s, the mall expanded. There was a new addition built at Sears d by the mall. This new upper level was almost as large as the original mall. It included JCPney
Which were located downtown until the 1980s and one Miller’s Departmt store. An extension has been made to the lower level giving access to the new upper level with escalators and an elevator. The mall also saw original anchor Kroger also pull out and move into its own store across the street. Piccadilly has moved into part of the old Kroger space.
As the region continued to grow, so did the mall. Miller’s Departmt store was converted to Hess’s before being closed when Hess went bankrupt. The mall underwent a major renovation that included the addition of a new food court on the lower level in the transition to the upper level. This rovation included a new anchor store behind the mall in the former theater space; the initial tant was on Profit. This store opened in 1992, as the now vacant Hess store briefly became a Profits Home store. Parks-Belk was acquired by Proffitt’s in the late 1990s and was rebranded to have M, Kid’s and Home Improvement divisions. This resulted in the closing of Proffitt’s home store, which was later leased to Goody’s Family Clothing. Glimcher Reality bought the mall in 1996 for $44 million.

In 2006 Proffitt’s was acquired by Belk and resulted in a change to the dual anchors. Belk was again the dominant retailer in the Tri-Cities after the conversions.
Recently, a series of major additions and expansions have been undertaken. Several stores, including American Eagle Outfitters and GameStop, were moved from the lower level as space formerly marred by Kroger and Piccadilly cafeterias was demolished to make way for Dick’s Sporting Goods. The interior of the shopping center also underwent a series of renovations at this time. There was an addition to the JCPney store, doubling its space.
After Dick’s Family Clothing ended, Goody’s Family Clothing announced in late 2007 that they would not renew their lease and they closed in January 2008.
In February 2008, Bath and Body Works, White Barn Candle Co., Victoria’s Secret, and Fanatics 101 moved elsewhere in the mall to make room for the new Victoria’s Secret and Pink (Victoria’s Secret) which took over all of the rectally relocated stores . Kirkland is closed during this time to make room for a temporary Victoria’s Secret location. Bath and Body Works has taken the original Victoria’s Secret White Candle Barn location along with them in the new store.

Nisas Collections opened its store in May 2008. Located across from Merle Norman, on the main trans on the upper level of the mall. JCPney opened its new addition in late June 2008, and the tire store rotation was completed by late fall 2008. The Goody’s Tire Store was converted into a new corridor giving access to a new wing. A Forever 21 flagship store opened in fall 2009. Ritz Camera closed in early 2009. GNC has been moved to a temporary location until their new permanent store opens. While the interior of the mall was getting revved up, the roadway trances also began to be moved and cleaned to improve traffic flow. Ruby Tuesday closed on January 13, 2009.
Further expansion plans include space for an additional anchor store outside the former Goodies. But with the economy slowing, a new anchor is not expected to be announced for some time. The former Ruby Tuesday location was combined with an empty space next door to make room for the new Charming Charlie’s store which opened in early 2011.
On January 29, 2020, it was announced that HomeGoods would open in the former Sears space in the fall of 2021. You guys, we literally had the best weekend of antique hunting in Johnson City! We just went on a day trip on Friday afternoon but I really wish we could have stayed longer because there were some AMAZING shops there and we didn’t get to check them all out!

There are several locations throughout Tennessee for this store. We’ve actually been to the one in Sevierville before and love that one too.
The two we visited on this trip were the North Johnson City and Elizabethton locations. I love the Johnson City location the most because it’s so big and full of vintage goodies!
That’s where we got most of our haul, but we found a few goodies at the Elizabethton location as well. So it’s definitely worth checking out both areas as they’re pretty close.
Johnson City Downtown Day Center Clinic
The main purpose of this little day trip was for my husband to find a vintage cooler. He wanted to find one to put in the bed of his truck.
His birthday is coming up later this month so I was really hoping we would find him. And guess what?! Here we scored the first place we went!
He really wanted to find a cooler for Dr. Pepper, but they are extremely rare. So he was very happy with the Therm-a-Chest he found here.
As I said before in my previous post (5 Antique Hunting Tips) it’s always good to go in with a game plan for what you want, that way you won’t get overwhelmed looking at everything.
Homegoods To Open In Former Sears Location At Mall At Johnson City
We stopped here really quickly after going to the Village and I have to say this store is much smaller. And I believe it’s more like a flea market than The Village.
They had some really great antiques here too, but you had to dig around to find them and there weren’t that many stalls here that were solely dedicated to antiques and vintage pieces.
But if you’re in town and making a thrifty day, you should definitely check this place out too and see what they have to offer because you just never know what you’re going to find.
As I stated above, my husband’s mission was to find a vintage cooler on this trip and just as we walked in here, there was a vintage Coca-Cola cooler sitting right on the shelf at the first booth!
The Best Places To Antique Hunt In Johnson City, Tennessee
He still didn’t get it because he was so happy with the one he found from the previous store.
But it just goes to show you that it’s always worth looking because you can definitely find a treasure you never expected to find. In other words, don’t judge a store by its looks! I also found some butter molds here that I loved and they were in really great condition.

I save the best for last! All in all, this place was AMAZING. Definitely one of my favorite antique stores I’ve ever been to. It was also technically in Elizabethton, but it wasn’t far from Johnson City at all.
The shop itself used to be a vintage car shop so the interior is so unique and beautiful. And all the booths here were definitely authentic vintage and antiques, which I love! It was also a huge building and included a second floor, so there was a lot to look at!
My favorite pieces come from here. I managed to score a goal
