We caught up with Christine Lee, the mastermind behind the @HomeGoodsObsessed Instagram account, to share her top shopper-approved insider tips and tricks for getting the best deal and the best finds found in the market’s home decor store. Read on for seven secrets only the wealthiest HomeGoods fan knows.

When are you most likely to hit up HomeGoods? At the weekend? If you can swing it, Christine recommends visiting at a different time for ease of shopping and a strong selection. “If your schedule allows it, noon Tuesday through Friday is the best time to shop at HomeGoods,” she says. “Everyone is working and the shop is quiet and well organized. The team also puts out new inventory these days and the aisles and floors will be filled. Monday is recovery day (from the weekend), so I don’t even bother.”
Although Christine notes her favorite days of the week to hit up the ‘Goods’, she doesn’t mind mentioning that fresh picks hit the shelves daily. “Most stores receive shipments 4 times a week: Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, but items are not expected to hit the floor immediately. They rip out, so new items appear every day.” That said, if you went yesterday and didn’t find the right platter or duvet cover, you might have better luck today.
“Markdowns happen every three months on a product,” says Christine. And if you haven’t had your eye on something in a while and you can tell how long it’s been in a store, there’s an easier way to tell a product’s lifespan. “Read the label! It will show you the month and year (ie 1117 = November 2017).
Well, that is if the item is slightly damaged. Christine notes that “you can expect a 10% discount on pieces that are slightly damaged – a scratch here, a ding there. For heavily damaged items, you could get up to 20-28% off, but that’s at the manager’s discretion.” Oh, and those clearance items that might be showing a little wear and tear too? It’s okay to ask questions about those too, even though their prices have already been reduced. “If you see a clearance item that’s a little damaged, it doesn’t hurt to ask the manager for an extra discount—they’re trying to get rid of inventory to free up floor space for new items!”

Of course, some trips to HomeGoods are purely for leisure. Walking around just to see what they have, what might strike you on a Tuesday afternoon during your lunch break. But, according to Christine (and any other power shopper out there) you should always be equipped with relevant information for your home needs. “Be prepared,” she says. “Take photos of your space and save it to your phone. Pre-measured walls you want to fill, empty spaces, the floor. You never think to do this ahead of time until you find that gem and then you start wondering if it will work. Oh, and bring a tape measure so you don’t have to bother looking for a roommate for one, and risk someone else getting your dream piece.”
See something you like and can’t decide right away? “Put it in your cart anyway because it’s probably gone by the time you decide to go back and get it,” says Christine. Think about it, and if it’s “no” to check out, just put it back.
There are a few things to note here. One is that if you see something you like at your local HomeGoods but it’s damaged, or you need multiples, chances are another store nearby might have what you need. Although the selection can be very diverse as a store to store, they also share some similar items. The same goes for sister stores, Marshalls and TJMaxx. “They usually have a small home furniture section, as well as home decor items such as art, frames, art, vases, etc.,” says Christine.
Second, HomeGoods doesn’t have an online retail component, but Christine has another suggestion for those who prefer to shop from their Wi-Fi network: “Check out TJMaxx.com; there are tons of extras in their ‘Home’ section; bedding, accessories, decor, small furnishings.”

If you walk down the red brick paths you will pass excellent homeware and clothes shops, but the Gate is a shopping centre. It serves as a hub for many of the city’s favorite entertainment venues, including the Clark Planetarium, Discover Gateway Children’s Museum, Megaplex 12 Movie Theater and downtown concert venues including the Depot and the Vivint Arena.
Trolleys and electric trains were housed in the newly remodeled Trolley Square a century ago, but today shoppers can enjoy dozens of boutiques, gift shops and restaurants, as well as fresh produce at the state’s Flagship Whole Foods Market. Visitors can walk to the top of Trolley Square’s iconic lighted water tower for panoramic views of the Salt Lake skyline set against the Wasatch Mountains. This historic shopping center is full of interactive exhibits, photography collections and restored trolley cars.

For upscale shopping in the Salt Lake valley, Fashion Placeofs offers more than 125 high-end boutiques and restaurants.
