Shipments are sent by Royal Mail unless otherwise stated. Please provide a delivery address (home or business) where someone is ready to receive the package, as they are often too large to fit in a mailbox. My mom, who is the queen of finding great deals at garage sales or thrift stores, recently came across this beauty for only $5! He sent me a picture and told me he knew I could make something useful out of it! My mom is the best and I might be a little biased but who cares. Lol, I’ve been wanting to try my hand at the chalkboard. I thought this was the perfect format for a kitchen menu, which is something else I’ve been wanting to do.
The first thing I did was remove the back of the frame so I could remove the mirror. This was a trial and error deal. I actually tried to paint the mirror while it was still in the frame, but the masking tape I applied to the frame ripped the chalk paint and wasted about three coats of paint. The nice thing was that it came off in one big piece, so it didn’t make a big mess and I could repaint on a fresh surface. When I got the mirror out, I cleaned it with alcohol to get all the oils and dust off the surface. Then I used a small roller brush to apply the chalkboard paint. Three to four layers are enough. Let each coat dry for about an hour, then let the mirror dry for at least two days before continuing.
Between the layers of chalkboard paint on the mirror, I painted the frame. I’m in love with this chalk spray paint, hey! Many of my recent DIYs are this color! This is probably my favorite shade of turquoise. I mean, isn’t this color amazing?! Ok moving on… Lol

After painting it right side up and letting it dry overnight, I turned it upside down and painted it from the bottom up. This ensures that you can get your paint into every crevice. I let it dry for another day.
Once you’ve put everything back together, your chalkboard is ready. To prepare your chalkboard for writing, you need to rub the surface with the edge of a piece of chalk. Once you’ve done this, you can wipe it back. Chalkboard paint is porous and this fills these spaces. If this step is skipped, the first thing you typed will always be visible, even if you try to delete it. Don’t forget this step! I didn’t get a picture of the blank chalkboard until I started adding the vinyl letters. This will be for our kitchen menu and I didn’t want to keep writing the menu and the days of the week over and over again, so I cut vinyl stickers for these words.

Step 1 – collect supplies. I had these short bead boards that I kept when we finished the basement. I had no idea what I would use them for, but I knew I would eventually. They work perfectly for this project. I was happy to find this frame that fit 7 “rows” of beadboard so I could use one every day.
Step 3 – Cut the bead board with a jigsaw. Make sure it fits the frame. Some I had to cut a little more.
Step 5 – Depending on your frame, you’ll probably need to cut the last piece long as well. I framed it and labeled it as best I could. Then cut it
